Skirting Around the Christmas Tree

Happy Friday everyone! I’m actually off from work today, using up a little vacation time and having a “me” day. I’ll finish up some Christmas shopping, run some errands, etc. Should be fun.

I wore this outfit yesterday. It was inspired by the lovely Maria from Lulu Letty. The other day she posted this super adorable Mary Poppins-esque outfit and I was reminded of the brown tweed A-line skirt in my own closet which doesn’t get a lot of wear. She wore hers with black – genius! I always struggle with what to wear with this skirt since I’m not a fan of wearing tons of brown. Adding some black gives it a little edge, just what it needs.

Brown tweed skirt: H&M
Black ruffle blouse: Mexx (what used to be a store on 5th ave near my old NY office. I believe the chain is now out of business)
Tights: Marshalls
Booties: Audrey Brooke (via DSW)
LL belt: L.L.Bean Signature (here’s the story behind this belt)

Why, you may ask, do I look so sad and forlorn standing next to my lovely Christmas tree? I’m not sure either. So, here I am “rocking around the Christmas tree.”

Much better.

About sweetersalt

Salt = sodium = bad. Sweet = calories = bad. Well, isn't that just a bleak outlook. I firmly believe that without salt and without sweet we all just live in a world of lettuce. Plain lettuce. Fun? No. This blog is about life. Namely, my life. But, not that specific. I myself am simply not that interesting. I live an ordinary life, work an ordinary job and do ordinary things. But... life is all about experiencing that feeling you get when you really, really like something. If you don't feel a little warm in your heart when you walk into a farmer's market or try on a piece of beautiful clothing that fits you perfectly (that just so happens to be a great deal!) then you should probably keep on a' movin' from my little plot of internet. Sweeter salt is my metaphor for the good things in life, sprinkled over everything in moderation. Banana? Kinda boring. Banana smoothie - yum! White tank top? Yawn. Statement necklace layered over said tank - now we're talking! I live in Portland, Maine. I love cooking, eating out, riding my bike and approachable fashion. This blog does not chronicle my every waking moment. This is because you will probably not be entertained by the 10th day in a row that I eat the exact same salad for lunch. It does chronicle a healthy, active, fun-filled, colorful lifestyle, in Portland and beyond. It also covers dogs. Cute ones mostly.

That’s a really cute skirt and I love the contrast of the booties with the dark tights! Makes me think that maybe I can get away with wearies booties -am something of a late adapter to fashion -so haven’t tried them yet!

  4. I love that skirt! Going to look for it next time I’m at H&M!

As much as I love going on a real vacation, sometimes vacation days are better when you just have a “me” day and do what you want and catch up on the 80 million things you have to do that work interferes with! And aren’t you adorable. I feel like lately I’ve been in a work outfit rut. I end up going to work in all sorts of frumpy outfits (the type that I would be horrified to see ending up on the blog). But looking at this, I could totally recreate something similar in my closet, and it’s completely work appropriate. Apparently, I’ve just been making excuses. Maybe this will be a week of work-style renewal!
