Gray Day at the Beach

Even though the sun was firmly hidden behind a thick layer of clouds and the sky was threatening rain, on Sunday I decided Ross, Franklin and I desperately needed an outing to the beach. We live just down the street, but it’s been months since we’ve been made our way down. I suppose 127 blizzards and subzero temperatures negatively affect your desire to stand near open bodies of water. Strange. Anywho, we walked over and let the little man work out some of his energy with the other puppies.

I, perhaps unintelligently, decided to wear my new leather jacket. Drizzly weather + leather = bad idea. Fortunately my new purchase held up well. I’ve been eying this leather jacket for months, but have been unwilling to pay the hefty price tag. Luckily, it went on sale. Then I found a 30% off coupon code, plus I had $100 in gift certificates. I wound up paying $30 out of pocket for a $400 jacket. Man, I love a bargain.

This post is actually the blog’s first introduction to our brand new DSLR! We finally bit the bullet after months of saving and Ross’s crafty online money saving endeavors (he should have a blog about how much money he saves by researching codes, gift certificate websites and more). It’s a Canon EOS Rebel T2i and we’re super excited and are in the process of learning how to use it. I’m already seeing an improvement in my photo quality.

Green leather jacket: L.L.Bean Signature
Jeans: American Eagle
Brown sweatshirt cardigan: American Apparel
Brown boots: Union Bay via Marshall’s
Purse: vintage Dooney & Bourke
Scarf: vintage

For the DLSR users out there, do you have any tips for a newbie? I used to use a film SLR all the time (back in the dark ages) but it has been a while. I’m definitely liking it, but it will take some trial and error to get it down.

About sweetersalt

Salt = sodium = bad. Sweet = calories = bad. Well, isn't that just a bleak outlook. I firmly believe that without salt and without sweet we all just live in a world of lettuce. Plain lettuce. Fun? No. This blog is about life. Namely, my life. But, not that specific. I myself am simply not that interesting. I live an ordinary life, work an ordinary job and do ordinary things. But... life is all about experiencing that feeling you get when you really, really like something. If you don't feel a little warm in your heart when you walk into a farmer's market or try on a piece of beautiful clothing that fits you perfectly (that just so happens to be a great deal!) then you should probably keep on a' movin' from my little plot of internet. Sweeter salt is my metaphor for the good things in life, sprinkled over everything in moderation. Banana? Kinda boring. Banana smoothie - yum! White tank top? Yawn. Statement necklace layered over said tank - now we're talking! I live in Portland, Maine. I love cooking, eating out, riding my bike and approachable fashion. This blog does not chronicle my every waking moment. This is because you will probably not be entertained by the 10th day in a row that I eat the exact same salad for lunch. It does chronicle a healthy, active, fun-filled, colorful lifestyle, in Portland and beyond. It also covers dogs. Cute ones mostly.

According to Ross, you have found the best deal ever at $560. We paid more than that (with the kit lense). Are you buying new?

However, he did manage to save money by buying discounted amazon gift cards (plasticjungle.com is one source) and by scouring the internet for codes, etc. Good luck!

I Love the picture of you sitting! The boot shot is great too. I have a ‘bridge camera’ & I’m rather tech challenged (ha). But I can totally see a difference in your pictures, I’m sure after time and play you will get the hang. Looking good lady!
